Tramuntana
A Planet Painted by Hand
Tramuntana
2025, 18 min, World Premiere at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
in a screening supported by Instituto Cervantes in New York
Synopsis: In a remote area of northern Spain, the wind has a name: Tramuntana. Tramuntana takes what it wants—clothes, trees, boats, and the people of the landscape who live with the endless threat of being carried away by its force. This film is a lyrical portrait of this furious wind, woven from the stories passed down by local villagers.
Director's Note: This film was shot in the mountains surrounding the village of Colera, where I have spent most of my summers. The jagged landscape of the area is shaped by a powerful wind called Tramuntana, which can blow at speeds exceeding 200 km/h. The force of this wind is evident in the landscape: it bends tree trunks and erodes the vegetation that dares to grow under its spell.
During my summers there, I often heard stories and myths shared by local villagers about living under the reign of this violent wind. Two years ago, I decided to delve deeper into these stories by spending more time speaking with them. This film emerged from that shared time—and from my quest to capture something as invisible and intangible as the wind.
